Klute (1971)
Early in our introduction to Fonda’s character, we see her after a long day of auditioning for commercials and servicing johns in the dim lighting of her unkempt Manhattan apartment. Her evenings are spent cozied up with the requisite glass of wine and joint necessary to numb the loneliness of a working woman in New York.
Klute (1971)
In Alan J. Pakula’s Klute, Donald Sutherland plays the title character, a small-town Pennsylvania cop turned P.I. who heads to New York City to investigate the disappearance of his friend Tom Gruneman. The only lead Klute has to go on is an X-rated letter that was found in Gruneman’s office for a prostitute named Bree Daniels (Jane Fonda). The actress-turned-activist won an Oscar for her performance of the classic women’s role.
